Footprint Sustainability Index 2025

AI-designed meals, cutting carbon and robot waiters - the 2025 Footprint Sustainability Index is now live

Nestlé Professional, in collaboration with Footprint, has launched the 2025 Footprint Sustainability Index, the sixth edition of the essential guide for foodservice businesses seeking to drive forward purposeful, practical and scalable sustainability.

As the foodservice industry navigates a year of cost pressures, environmental uncertainty and shifting regulation, the Index provides strategic direction on how businesses can embed purpose into performance. It highlights a range of key trends and focus areas, including digital transformation, regenerative supply chains, ESG integration and the role of sustainability in attracting both customers and talent.

Produced by Footprint, the UK’s leading sustainability and ESG expert in food and drink, the report provides a comprehensive overview of how operators are responding with resilience, ambition and innovation. The Index champions real-world solutions that go beyond reporting – showing how the sector can collaborate and take tangible action towards climate goals at this pivotal point in the ‘decisive decade’.

Consumers expect purpose-driven progress

The Index also includes new consumer research showing a clear appetite for more sustainable, transparent and tech-forward food experiences:

  • 56% of consumers are more likely to visit a venue that openly displays its commitment to reducing carbon
  • 36% say doing the right thing for people and the planet is a top priority when choosing an employer
  • 61% of younger consumers are actively reducing their meat intake
  • More than half of consumers are open to AI-designed meals
  • 43% are willing to be served by robots

These findings underline how environmental and ethical performance is now a critical component of brand perception and workforce strategy.

At Nestlé Professional, we are proud to support a foodservice sector that is facing today’s challenges head-on. The 2025 Footprint Sustainability Index is a toolkit for action.
