The Importance Of Sharing Your Sustainability Journey: Exclusive Q&A

Watch this sustainability advice Q&A session with Deborah Meaden and NESCAFÉ Community Regeneration Lead, Robin Sundaram.

In this Q&A session, Deborah Meaden and Robin Sundaram share exclusive insights on key topics related to improving business sustainability. Join us as we explore their thoughts on the benefits of sustainable businesses and increasing awareness of sustainable practices.

Question 1: What are the real benefits of running a sustainable business?

Deborah Meaden: It might have been easy for consumers to ignore sustainability concerns before, but now we’re living in a world where climate change has become a real worry for many of us.

The real challenge for businesses is learning how to talk to their consumers. You need to address these concerns and reassure them that your business is working to overcome these challenges.

Try to use inclusive language like 'join us on our journey' to promote collective responsibility and help alleviate your consumers’ anxieties. It will not only help communicate your mission, but it will also help to comfort your consumers.

Robin Sundaram: To agree with Deborah’s point, we are living in a world affected by climate change. Our farming, for example, has been heavily impacted, so NESCAFÉ has implemented practices such as regenerative agricultural farming to become more resilient to climate change. Sustainable practices can be just as beneficial to businesses to help ensure a successful future. It's also important to look at sustainability from a social perspective and support the people in your supply chain so that everyone can look after themselves and their families.

Question 2: How do we increase awareness around sustainability?

Deborah Meaden: As long as we keep having conversations about sustainability, we’re heading in the right direction. By having these conversations and asking these questions, it means we care. Awareness starts with just one small change that can set off a chain reaction to thinking about the impact of everything you do. By telling your brand story, you can point your consumers in the right direction and show them why they should care. Ultimately, showing people why they should care about these sustainability issues is the first step towards change.

Robin Sundaram: Telling your story is definitely key to building awareness around sustainability. Try to find ways to deliver these messages in ways that feel like part of the consumer's world, incorporating sustainable actions into their existing routines.

Key insights:

  • Storytelling: Make your consumers aware of their impact through your brand storytelling.

  • Social Responsibility: It’s important to look at your social sustainability too, making sure that your workers at every stage of your supply chain are looked after.

  • Building Awareness: It can start with just one small change that leads to a chain reaction of realising what can affect the environment.
