“The Nestlé Cocoa Plan helps farmers run profitable farms, supports the elimination of child labour and ensures a sustainable supply of cocoa.”
George Vezza, Managing Director, Nestlé Professional UK & Ireland
We work with both UTZ Certified and the Fairtrade Foundation to independently certify that our cocoa is sourced and produced sustainably on farms with safe working conditions.
UTZ is committed to creating a better, more sustainable world by improving producers’ lives through a flexible and efficient certification programme. UTZ certified farmers are provided with training on sustainable framing practices and, as a result, generate more income for their families while safeguarding their environment.
“Our vision is that sustainability becomes the norm. Nestlé Professional’s commitment is a step towards that vision.”
Daan de Vries, Markets Director, UTZ
The Fairtrade Foundation, meanwhile, supports small-scale farmers and workers who are marginalised from trade. Through standards and certification, Fairtrade provides direct support to those producers, ensuring companies pay a fair price and deepening both social and environmental sustainability.
With the launch of the Sustainable Development Goals and the ambition to end poverty in all its forms everywhere by 2030, working with the Fairtrade Foundation to build more sustainable supply chains is a critical step. The secured price and social premium enabled through Fairtrade delivers real investment in community and farmer-led development in a future sustainable cocoa industry.
“The Fairtrade Foundation is pleased to be working in partnership with Nestlé Professional to achieve a 100% sustainable sourcing commitment in cocoa.”
Michael Gidney, Chief Executive Officer, The Fairtrade Foundation
We’re very proud to have reached this landmark milestone. It’s a big step forward in our long-term commitment to making a real difference to cocoa farmers and their communities.
