Throughout the current COVID19 crisis, we have been working hard on many initiatives designed to support our customers through these unprecedented times. Ranging from machine rental freezes to online networking to maintain relationships, you can find out more about how we’re supporting below.

In our bid to do good for the society as well as uplift spirits of those that were working tirelessly to help those in need, our Garden Gourmet brand partnered with global facilities management leader, Atalian Servest, to help their customers get easy access to a hot, nourishing and delicious meal.

The GARDEN GOURMET team were keen to provide a hot, nourishing and delicious meal for all front-line workers and anybody else who are working tirelessly to help support the NHS.


Supporting Open Kitchens to provide free meals

To help provide meals for key workers and anyone who is struggling to maintain a well-balanced diet as a result of Covid-19 we are supporting a new initiative, Open Kitchens. This not-for-profit organisation has launched to re-purpose closed restaurant kitchens across the nation, to provide free nutritious meals to those most in need. 

Open Kitchens has already opened 26 kitchens and provided over 83,000 free meals to help people struggling due to Covid-19. Donations are needed to cover the essential running costs for each Open Kitchen. Every £1.85 donated is enough to provide a single, restaurant-quality meal for those who need a little extra support during this time.

As part of the initiative we have donated cases of Chef® sauce, stock and jus to help chefs create delicious meals to share with the local communities.

Those who have received meals are massively appreciative with a key worker from NHS Queens Medical Centre saying:

"Thank you for your kindness and generosity. The chilli really put a smile on our faces which could be seen even through our masks."

The Nottinghamshire YMCA also expressed its thanks, saying:

"It is heart-warming to see true human compassion shining through these dark times and we are deeply grateful to Open Kitchens for the incredible support."

The initiative has already received high levels of interest from restaurant owners across the UK wanting to do their bit. George Ktori who runs the popular Greek restaurant, Yamas in Nottingham city centre was thrilled to learn of the initiative:

“When Open Kitchens came to me, I was immediately on board. It’s important to help in these times and feed those who need it most. We’ve got the equipment, ingredients and talented chefs who have volunteered their time to cook fresh meals for those who don’t have access to them.”

If you want to support you can donate as an individual or organisation via the initiative’s central Just Giving page. Just £1.85 will provide a hearty meal for someone who needs it.



Each restaurant will have its own Just Giving page created too, which can all be viewed via the map on www.openkitchens.co.uk.



NESCAFÉ AZERA Coffee Machine and coffee cups with Welcome

Partnering with Welcome Southampton to provide free NESCAFÉ AZERA coffee to go to NHS staff and other key workers

Since the onset of the Covid 19 crisis which has affected so many people and communities which our services currently operate in, Nestlé Professional alongside Welcome Southampton have been able to support people on the front line by offering a free cup of NESCAFÉ Azera coffee to go. The initiative is open to all current holders of the ‘Blue Light Card’, at both the Liberty Quays and Frobisher House Coop sites. To date, the scheme has provided over 350 cups* of free coffee of their choosing, which we hope will help our valuable key workers through these uncertain times.

Foodservice customer support

With the OOH Foodservice sector hit particularly hard as a result of the crisis with unprecedented stress on business cashflows, we immediately put in place some financial support for vulnerable customers.

We have paused the rental on our NESCAFÉ coffee machines for our most vulnerable customers for a minimum of three months from April 1st 2020. In order to comply with social distancing, we are unable to come out to see you but as soon as the lockdown is lifted and businesses are allowed to reopen, we’ll be reinstating our Coffee Ambassador and engineer visits as quickly as possible to help you get back up and running. Our engineers will continue to provide support for our NESCAFÉ coffee machines on hospital sites, such as the new Nightingale in Exeter, ensuring we continue to support the NHS where ever possible.
We have also been working closely with over 100 of our most at risk customers to offer extended credit to help them through the crisis.

Meals from Marlow

We are working with Tom Kerridge’s Meals from Marlow initiative, which provides over 1,000 meals a day for key workers and vulnerable sections of society from the Marlow region. We’ve supported this campaign by providing ingredients to be used in meal preparation including over 1000L of our Chef Beef All Natural Stock, 20 tubs of dehydrated Chef Jus de Veau and 10 cases of Chef Hollandaise sauce. Keeping the industry connected with MCA

We are proud sponsors of MCA’s Directors Club event, where senior leaders in the industry gather together to discuss relevant topics. Since the COVID19 crisis, we’re delighted to have work closely with MCA to change the format of the events into digital webinars, under the banner of ‘The Conversation.’ With an average of nearly 40 people attending each webinar, we are pleased we can still help bring the industry together. Supporting customer donations

Our contract catering customers have been working hard to ensure that there are meals, hot drinks and snacks available for NHS keyworkers on the frontline. We’ve responded to requests from our catering customers and have donated over a thousand cases of KitKat and Nescafé Original to over more than 100 NHS hospitals. In real terms, this is a total of 50,000 cups of coffee and 25,000 bars of chocolate for workers’ snacks and breaks! We will continue supporting the industry throughout this time, working on a range of initiative to provide as much help as we can. We are always open and here to support you.

Working with Manchester City

Through our Manchester City FC partnership, we were delighted to provide over 1,000 Easter eggs to young carers in the local community to thank them for their hard work through these difficult times. Manchester City has also opened an exclusive café for NHS staff working at Manchester’s Nightingale hospital – we’ve relocated one of our NESCAFÉ coffee machines to the new café and we are providing stock to the team throughout the COVID-19 crisis.
